elements; from it derives the term "hyphenated", which designates or
constitutes a unit or a whole of diverse composition or origin.
Statement of principles and goals
Our primary objective is the preservation and advancement of the Hellenic
ethno-cultural identity within Canadian society. To accomplish this aim we
aim to:
a) inquire about and reflect over the long and laborious formation of
Hellenic culture through time, in all its aspects and relationships with
other cultures, and
b) learn how to select and adopt the knowledge we acquire for use and
guidance in our everyday lives.
We are especially interested in those features of Hellenic culture that
have long-lasting and universal value. We learn from ourselves as well as
from others. We seek not the marginalization of Hellenism, but its
prosperity in a context of prosperity for all, a context of genuine
multiculturalism and democracy.
This goal is best served by active participation. The newspaper of our
student association will have its pages open to informative commentary,
frank communication and constructive critical dialogue.
